Apple Inc. Produces “Hometown”

Hometown Shot on iPhone 12 Pro

“To celebrate Black History Month, Apple commissioned more than 30 Black photographers to capture and share their hometowns with the world through their unique lens, all shot on iPhone 12 Pro. All across the US, these photographers set out to showcase the people and the pockets of their cities that embody their local culture.”

"Black is excellence."

Lawrence Agyei of Chicago took the feature image to this post and explained how he, “Wanted to capture the essence of Chicago and its excellence.”

Agyei cites his mom for teaching him about black history which in turn has given Agyei the desire to tell the story of the Black experience in Chicago.

Hometown is Excellence

If you have an appreciation for quality editorial photography, taking a moment to read “Hometown” won’t disappoint you. Each of the 5 photographers points-of-views are unique. The images range from pure photojournalistic views, fashion forward portraits, architecture, and to even, surf photos.

There are two cool elements in play here. All of the photos were taken using an iPhone 12 Pro and all of the photos were taken by Black photographers. It is great to see that one of the wealthiest companies on the planet is searching for equality within our country and proving that the photos you take need to come from the heart and knowledge of location.

You can read the whole “Hometown” story featuring the imagery of 5 Black Photographers, spanning coast to coast in the US, in Apple’s Newsroom.
