bears of lake clark | alaska | $4500.00 | july 21-27, 2010
It is the last frontier, a place where wild dominates human kind. A place known as the land of the midnight sun, here alpenglow lasts for hours, not minutes. Imagine venturing into this wilderness where the bears do not fear humans. Where the minimal human population has learned and adapted to live in harmony with them. The bears rule, not only because they are strong, large, and on the top of their food chains, but because the humans believe that they should. Now imagine being placed in that scenario, and approaching to within 15 feet of some of the bears. This is Alaska!
Jay is leading an exclusive workshop/tour to a private lodge in Lake Clark National Park, where the above scene is part of your daily routine. You will have the opportunity to photograph Alaskan brown bears, bald eagles, auks, kittiwakes, murres, puffins, and cormorants, to name a few; and landscapes to which you will surrender your soul. You will experience all of this while eating extraordinary food on a sun-lit deck with bears grazing below you. You can be one of only 6 people to learn the nuances of nature photography taught in a truly wild atmosphere by an extremely patient and well-versed instructor.
All meals, lodging, and transportation to and from the lodge is included. You will be responsible for your flight to and from Anchorage, AK and travel to Lake Hood Airstrip. Jay will already be in Anchorage, so if you need/want to carpool to the airport, he will be more than willing to accommodate you.
Itinerary:
July 21st-
We will meet at Lake Hood Airstrip and Seaplane base in Anchorage, AK. From here we will fly on a bush charter to the Silver Salmon Creek Lodge in Lake Clark National Park. Jay will give an inspirational talk after dinner this evening where all comments and questions are welcome.
July 22nd-26th-
We will shoot at sunrise and the sunset every day. If it is raining or overcast we will head out a little later in order to take advantage of some rest periods-there is very little night in Alaska even at this time of year. Every evening we will make a group decision on where to travel to the following day based on weather and previous locations. Jay will also include lectures during mid-day light conditions. The lodge has a boat to take us to shoot seabirds, a fossil beach, and seals, they have sea kayaks, fly fishing gear, and can also take participants halibut fishing. In a previous trip here, clients went fishing one afternoon and dinner was served from an 85 pound halibut that was caught during the excursion.
Evening of July 26th-
Jay will open the floor for image critiques, question and answers, and a final presentation after dinner.
July 27th-
We will depart from the lodge late morning to Anchorage, AK for return home. |
